Helen was awarded an Arts Council England Developing Your Creative Practice grant in late 2022. Undertaking a research and development process to explore new ways of working in rural North Yorkshire, she amassed a lot of useful information for anyone planning or delivering cultural services in rural England.
"There is a wealth of artistic talent and creative energy within rural North Yorkshire; currently this is often bubbling under the surface rather than being celebrated and helped to grow."

Background
In 2022, the Noisy Villages pilot project brought a new programme of bold, playful live music events to village halls across Ryedale including Terrington, Hutton-le-Hole, Wintringham and Gilling East . It aimed to bring inspiring and diverse artists from across the North to new audiences, and provide a platform for local musicians.
“Singing for a village hall with an intimate crowd felt so wonderful and different to venues that we normally play. We’d like to say THANK YOU!”
“This is the first time I have been to a concert for many years, and I could walk here!”
“Currently listening to ‘Band of Jays’ and the acoustics in the village hall are perfect for their music. Please hold Noisy Villages again in the future”
“The best £7 I have spent for ages!”
Watch some clips of the performances and enjoy a flavour of everything from folk to bossa nova!
The project was made possible with the support of Ryedale District Council and Launchpad.
"A real ray of sunshine over the village"
During the summer of 2020, the Covid 19 pandemic closed galleries, theatres and cultural spaces across the country and required people to stay at home. To celebrate the creativity of local people and bring the community together at this difficult time we created an outdoor art gallery in the village of Welburn. In this gallery the artists are local residents, and the gallery walls are lampposts, telegraph poles and fences around the village.
